GreenWood, Inc. has once again been recognized with the McGriff Workplace Safety Excellence Award for its outstanding safety performance across the organization. The award is presented to companies that demonstrate exceptional overall safety results, as measured by key performance indicators including workers’ compensation policy loss ratio, workers’ compensation experience modification rate (EMR), and BLS/DART/OSHA recordable incident rates.

This marks the 16th consecutive year GreenWood has received the award—an achievement that underscores the company’s long-standing commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture and protecting the well-being of its workforce. GreenWood stands alone as the only company to have achieved this distinction for 16 consecutive years.

“We are proud to recognize GreenWood for this remarkable achievement,” said Warren Blanchard, McGriff Insurance Services. “Earning this award year after year reflects a deeply rooted commitment to workplace safety and a company-wide focus on protecting employees at every level of the organization. GreenWood has set a standard for sustained safety excellence.”

GreenWood’s safety performance is driven by a proactive, company-wide approach that emphasizes accountability, awareness, and continuous improvement in the field and across all operations.

“At GreenWood, safety is more than a metric—it is a core value that guides every job, every task, and every decision we make,” said Mike Simmons, Director of Safety for GreenWood. “Receiving this recognition each year is a testament to the dedication of our employees and the strength of our ‘Always Aware’ safety culture. Our priority is, and always will be, ensuring every employee is always safe.”

Recently, Ashlyn Vickers, Safety Coordinator for GreenWood, represented the company at the National Safety Council (NSC) Congress & Expo held in Denver, Colorado. Our affiliate group, Affinity Insurance, joined NSC this fall rather than holding a separate risk workshop as they have been known to do.

GreenWood remains committed to staying informed about the latest technologies, processes, and developments within the safety sector by participating in such industry events. The knowledge and connections gained through educational forums and networking support our ongoing efforts to strengthen the “Always Aware” safety program.

We are pleased to announce that we have earned the McGriff Workplace Safety Excellence Award for achieving excellence in safety performance throughout the company. This prestigious award recognizes only those companies who achieve outstanding overall safety performance based on workers’ compensation policy loss ratio, workers’ compensation experience modification (EMR), and BLS/DART/OSHA recordable incident rate. GreenWood is the only company to achieve this level of recognition for a 15th consecutive year.

“We are proud to recognize GreenWood for this unprecedented achievement,” says Warren Blanchard of McGriff Insurance Services. “This award reflects the company’s commitment to safety and the well-being of their employees. Every year, GreenWood earns this award for consistently achieving impressive results.”

Mike Simmons, GreenWood’s Director of Safety, adds, “Our daily goal is to work safely without any occurrences. Through our company-wide ‘always aware’ safety program, we ensure that every task is performed safely for the protection of our employees. That’s our number one priority at all times.”

GreenWood Scores 99.82 Safety Rating

Through our association with Captive Resources (CRI), we recently completed a successful risk control assessment which is a structured process for evaluating, prioritizing, and mitigating potential safety risks. We are proud to announce that we achieved an overall score of 99.82, ranking us as having one of the safest programs in the industry.

The assessment process involves an in-depth review of risk control policies and procedures compared to industry best practices. The risk control assessment helps identify strength and improvement opportunities that are used to create action plans that improve our overall best-in-class “always aware” safety program. This is one of the many ways we make GreenWood a safe place to work!

GreenWood, Inc. is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Highwire Platinum Safety Award for its continuous project work at Merck in Elkton, Virginia. This prestigious award is a reflection of GreenWood’s ongoing commitment to safety and outstanding results each year at this project. GreenWood’s “Always Aware” safety program is integrated with Merck’s safety standards to create an exceptionally safe work environment for all employees. The Platinum Safety Award is the highest honor awarded by Highwire.

The Highwire Safety Assessment reviews a company’s historic safety performance and current safety management systems. The program includes a thorough, objective and consistent evaluation of company performance so that clients and contractors can identify, monitor, and manage risk smarter. The results provide a strong indicator of how a contractor values safety and serves a reliable predictor of future performance. GreenWood received an average of 99 out of 100 for every trade category with zero discrepancies, and no identified weaknesses.

“This recognition by Highwire points to the foundation of our safety standards and the over-arching program that is designed to maintain a safe work environment while protecting employees,” says Mike Simmons, Safety Director for GreenWood, Inc. “Our teams work hard to be safe which is core to our safety culture and is our top priority in all the work we perform every day.”
